A leading engineering firm in the UK is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join their team. This role involves liaising with clients to determine their metallurgical testing needs, conducting various tests, and preparing formal reports. Candidates should possess a degree in engineering and have at least ten years of relevant laboratory experience. Apave is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join our team in Perth, WA.
Liaise with clients to determine their metallurgical assessment and testing needs and provide advice on matters within the scope of the laboratory’s capacity.
Conduct routine metallurgical tests and examinations of product and material test specimens, including microstructure examinations, grain size determinations, and hardness and corrosions tests.
Conduct metallurgical examinations and investigations into failures of plant, equipment, metal products and fittings as presented.
Provide advice on material properties and material selection.
Conduct chemical analysis and positive material identification of materials and products.
Assess and report the findings of tests and examinations to produce formal reports that address client requirements and expectations.
Discuss and explain report details with client representatives as appropriate.
To work safely within the limits of the company safety policy and instructions.
To work with integrity and in full compliance with the Laboratory Quality Manual.
To fully embrace teamwork principles in every aspect of laboratory activities.
To fully understand and comply with all aspects of the Laboratory Quality System including NATA responsibilities.
Where appropriate, to work methodically to written job processing and testing procedures.
To actively participate in the maintenance of a clean and tidy laboratory environment.
To ensure that laboratory and workshop equipment under your control is maintained in good order and condition.
Technical or university education / Degree in engineering or associated field.
At least ten years practical experience in metallurgical and/or materials testing in a laboratory environment.
A broad understanding of metals manufacturing processes and modern innovations in materials and production methods.
Highly developed report writing skills, client liaison skills and general technical competence.
