Job Description Summary

Dowty (a GE Aerospace company) is a world-leading manufacturer of integrated propeller systems. Its products are used in applications that range from regional and military aircraft to marine hovercrafts.

Due to continued growth and success, we are now hiring for a permanent Material Review Board (MRB) Stress Engineer to join our team of analysis engineers onsite at our cutting edge manufacturing site in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, with the focus being on supporting analysis of production concessions.

Reporting to the Engineering Analysis Manager the MRB Engineer will ideally have product knowledge specifically around the composite blade manufacturing process, salvage and repair schemes and have a good understanding on how defects can impact the structural integrity of the Blade. Working under the guidance of experienced stress engineers the role of the MRB engineer will be to review non-conformances and defects, compose dispositions and work towards concession signatory for composite and metallic components for production and in-service components. In addition, the MRB Engineer will be responsible for the daily management involved in processing Blades through MRB to ensure the daily throughput is achieved.

This role would suit an engineer with experience of composite components within the aerospace industry with knowledge of stress analysis. It is essential that the successful candidate has the knowledge and ability to work towards signatory for concessions.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • To review manufacturing non-conformances, assess structural impacts and provide justification and technical dispositions for the components.
  • Work towards achieving concessions approval status for composite blades and metallic components for both production and in-service propellers.
  • Liaise with multiple functions (Design, Stress, Airworthiness, NDT, Operations) to co-ordinate the daily throughput of MRB.
  • Support root cause analysis to identify issues that may arise in the manufacturing process that contribute to non-conformances.
  • Monitor and facilitate regular quarantine blade reviews with the aim to reduce the number of blades in quarantine.
  • Support the selection of test blades to be used in justifying acceptance criteria.
  • Comply with industry and company standards, regulations and qualification requirements.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience of composite and/or metallic components within the aerospace industry.
  • Experience of stress analysis techniques of both static and fatigue analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and of the methods used to repair to composite components.
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a variety of cross-functional individuals and departments.
  • Minimum HND in a relevant engineering subject.

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience of dispositioning or approving concessions.
  • An understanding of structural tests used in the certification of Propeller Blades.
  • Knowledge of aerospace certification and airworthiness requirements.
