An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide a minimum of 12 months maternity cover as an Education Officer based in Sandwell Multi - Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in Education and Safeguarding of Children and Young People. By working closely with Multi‑agency Partners, education providers, this role will support Sandwell MBC in meeting its statutory functions relating to the provision of education and safeguarding children and young people.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Local Authority in meeting its statutory duties relating to the provision of education and the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
- Work closely with multi‑agency partners and education providers to provide key information to support risk assessment and positive outcomes for children and young people who may be in need of safeguarding.
- Provide advice, support and guidance to education providers around safeguarding queries including domestic abuse, exploitation and other vulnerabilities.
- Work in accordance with all relevant confidentiality policies and procedures to ensure compliance with data protection and information sharing protocols.
- Champion and execute a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Support the School Attendance Support Service colleagues to ensure that Service aims and objectives are met.
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with education providers, partner agencies in public, voluntary, statutory and commercial sectors, providing advice and guidance as required.
- Liaise with education providers to gather information for children for whom there are safeguarding concerns.
- Analyse multiple sources of information to make an informed judgement of interventions required and recommendations when there are concerns about a child/young person.
- Attend and make appropriate reports for multi‑agency safeguarding meetings such as strategy meetings, multi‑agency risk assessment conferences, child protection conferences as required.
- Support the coordination and analysis of the Education Safeguarding Compliance Audit.
- Deliver on the early notification of domestic abuse incidents to Education Providers.
- Maintain effective case records using electronic recording formats. Produce written and verbal reports as required, ensuring all personal data is handled in a confidential and sensitive manner within the scope of the nature and grade of the post, as directed by the line manager.
- Undertake inspections, audits and investigations in line with keeping children safe in education and working together to safeguard children and young people.
- Gather, collate and present information to support child safeguarding practice, reviews and domestic homicide reviews and child deaths.
- Work with multi‑agency representatives and teams to safeguard children and young people.
- Research, collate and present update information for the education directorate around safeguarding children and young people.
- Coordinate and support safeguarding forums for Education Safeguarding Practitioners.
- Contribute to onsite education safeguarding support including audits and training.
Qualifications
- NVQ 3/4 or above in Education/Child Care/Safeguarding/Youth work or other relevant qualification or relevant experience.
- Considerable experience and evidence of work with children and families for a minimum period of 3 years.
- Sound understanding of multi‑agency thresholds for intervention, multi‑agency working and quality assurance and inspection.
- Full understanding of relevant legal frameworks (e.g. Children’s Act 1989 & 2004) and statutory guidance relating to safeguarding and education.
- Ability to evaluate and report on data relating to safeguarding.
- Enhanced DBS Barring check required.
