Job description

The MSCA-PF provides an opportunity for a PhD holder to undertake collaborative research for a maximum period of 2–3 years in an institution approved by the funder: the European Commission. The PhD should have been obtained for a period of no more than 8 years by 9th September 2026. This 8‑year period will factor in and make allowance for certain key gaps, e.g., being away from work due to maternity leave.

To apply for the MSCA-PF, the PhD holder (Applicant / Researcher) will develop a proposal in collaboration with a Supervisor who is based at an approved Institution (Host) where the research project will be carried out, if funding is granted. The application is made jointly by the Postdoctoral Fellow and Supervisor.

The MSCA-PF is designed to support the research and career development of a Postdoctoral Fellow while drawing on the expertise of the Supervisor and host. The Postdoctoral Fellow who becomes the researcher when the grant is awarded receives a very competitive salary under the scheme, plus a mobility and family allowance where applicable.

Some opportunities for a MSCA-PF at the University of Wolverhampton

The School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering of the University of Wolverhampton is promoting ideas for a MSCA-PF bid, and these include:

  • The development of psychology in construction
  • The promotion of more women in construction
  • The applications of modern digital technologies in construction

The scope of these ideas is multidisciplinary and can be researched by an applicant from the discipline of psychology, Information Technology, business management, project management, management science, contract management, or any sub‑discipline of the built environment. The option of "insurance in construction" can also be researched by someone with a background in insurance, finance, economics or actuarial science. Any post‑doctoral academic who is interested in developing one of the foregoing ideas into a MSCA-PF bid is encouraged to contact us by emailing: E.Chinyio@wlv.ac.uk.

NB: An individual from industry who is interested in switching to academia is welcome to consider doing so via the MSCA-PF opportunity. Further, an individual who is interested in the MSCA-PF can equally propose their own preferred topic of research and develop this with the Supervisor. If this option is better for you, feel free to let us know and we will be happy to develop your idea in the joint application.

Expectations

A MSCA-PF applicant will need to write a 10‑page research proposal, in conjunction with the Supervisor, who in this case is Dr Ezekiel Chinyio (E.Chinyio@wlv.ac.uk) of the University of Wolverhampton. The Supervisor will assist with the application. Dr Chinyio has experience of the MSCA-PF scheme, having won a grant before.

Expressions of interest welcome

Any PhD holder, from the disciplines mentioned previously, and from any country, who is interested in the MSCA-PF opportunity is welcome to contact us with their resume/CV and any questions or research idea by 30th April 2026. Please email these to E.Chinyio@wlv.ac.uk.
