Job summary

A leading aerospace organisation in Tewkesbury is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer (Sliding Head Lathe) to develop and implement lean manufacturing processes. This role requires significant experience in manufacturing engineering and knowledge of CNC programming. You will manage complex machining processes and support continuous improvement initiatives. A degree in a related field is essential. Competitive salary between £45,000 and £50,000 offered.

Manufacturing Engineer (Sliding Head Lathe)

Location - Gloucester

Salary - £45,000 - £50,000

I am working with a leading organisation in the aerospace and manufacturing space, who are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer (Sliding Head) to join the company at an exciting time of transformation and growth.

This role is central to developing and delivering manufacturing processes for precision machined components across a range of materials. You will play a key part in New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, advising on Design for Manufacture (DfM), PPAP, GD&T, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lean manufacturing processes focused on quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Create machining processes for complex components with tight tolerances using CAD/CAM tools (Siemens NX or Partmaker preferred).
  • Select cutting tools, design fixtures, and produce shop documentation.
  • Support APQP activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and MSA studies.
  • Lead and support process improvement projects, ensuring minimal downtime in the machine shop.
  • Review engineering drawings for manufacturability and recommend design changes to enhance productivity and standardisation.
  • Provide technical support to my clients supply chain to ensure quality, cost, and delivery expectations are met.
  • Mentor and support Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians in tooling, gauging, and fixture design.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in manufacturing/process engineering, ideally within aerospace or regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of DFM, DFSS, APQP, Lean methodologies, and Zero Defects principles.
  • Proven CNC programming expertise using 3D CAD/CAM (Partmaker/Featurecam preferred, Siemens NX10.0, Vericut).
  • Experience of using sliding head machines (Star machines preferred not essential)
  • Exposure to advanced processes such as EDM, honing, lapping, grinding, flow deburring, anodising, and heat treatment.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to innovate and deliver practical solutions.
