Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead and develop the commercial function for rail civils projects across the Southern / South East region. You will manage a team of Quantity Surveyors and provide senior commercial support to project delivery teams driving profitable project performance management contractual risk and acting as the client-facing commercial lead during negotiations and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Regional Commercial Director / Operations Director for the regional business unit and providing commercial leadership across multiple projects
  • Managing and mentoring a team of Assistant and Quantity Surveyors offering day‑to‑day guidance and contractual advice
  • Leading commercial management of site portfolios to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Preparing reviewing and submitting accurate estimates and price submissions
  • Resolving pricing queries and negotiating contractual changes and claims with clients
  • Overseeing contract administration under NEC NR or bespoke contracts including early warnings change management and CVRs
  • Liaising with site managers and subcontractors to gather information control costs and manage final accounts
  • Producing commercial reporting and supporting business development opportunities
Experience and Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor within a contractor environment including responsibility for leading and developing a commercial team
  • Strong background in civil engineering infrastructure project
  • Experience administering NEC4 form of contract
  • Degree HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying Commercial Management or a related discipline
  • Professional accreditation (MRICS or equivalent) desirable
  • Excellent commercial acumen negotiation capability and stakeholder management skills
