Maintenance Technician – Mechanical

The Maintenance department at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a professional and highly motivated Maintenance Technician – Mechanical to join a busy and dynamic team. The role requires prioritising workloads, identifying improvements to operational systems and management processes to increase departmental efficiencies.


The position is Monday to Friday (08:00 – 16:00) with an on‑call rota across all operational sites.


Responsibilities


  • carry out day‑to‑day mechanical repairs, planned maintenance and improvements to the Trust’s buildings in conformance with statutory regulations and codes of practice

  • install mechanical new work

  • work as part of a multi‑skilled, multi‑disciplinary maintenance team

  • participate in the emergency on‑call rota as required by contractual obligation to ensure safe systems and service continuity

  • analyse faults and undertake rectifications to ensure continuity of service

  • maintain a professional appearance in line with the Trust dress code and uphold the Trust’s values and equality and diversity principles


Qualifications (Essential)


  • completed and passed a 4‑year apprenticeship, City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3

  • mechanical/plumbing training for electricians or electrical training for mechanical

  • basic electrical knowledge

  • a National Qualification Framework (NQF) achievement to level 3 or above (e.g. City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent)

  • full UK driving licence


Qualifications (Desirable)


  • continuing training to latest Electrical Regulations

  • competent person Medical Gas authorisation

  • legionella responsible person training for mechanical technicians

  • experience in building services maintenance with a demonstrable track record of competence

  • experience in a large acute hospital

  • knowledge and appreciation of building maintenance issues

  • knowledge of NHS and working in clinical areas

  • knowledge of estates maintenance

  • complex fault diagnosis skills required

  • able to plan and prioritise work

  • excellent oral and written communication skills

  • able to plan own workload, be flexible and prioritise tasks

  • ability to develop and work effectively in a team

  • self‑motivator

  • ability to work under pressure

  • BMS experience

  • utilisation of computer‑based risk and asbestos register
