Job description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Electrician to join our team and support the electrical infrastructure across our academic campuses to ensure a safe and efficient environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role will be 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Role Overview

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems across the university campus. You will ensure that all electrical systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults to ensure minimal disruption to campus operations.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and regulations
  • Carry out minor works electrical installations or upgrades as part of campus development projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues, including out-of-hours support as needed.
  • Support energy efficiency initiatives by maintaining and optimising electrical systems.
  • Uphold high standards of health and safety, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing qualification or equivalent).
  • Proven experience as a maintenance electrician, preferably in a commercial or public sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and safety standards
  • Familiarity with testing and diagnostic equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with colleagues and contractors.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of building management systems (BMS) and energy-efficient technologies.
  • Experience with emergency lighting or fire alarm systems.

Full UK driving license is essential. Participation in an out of hours call out rota is required.
