Maintenance Engineer
The purpose of this role is to provide engineering support within the maintenance team and be responsible for the maintenance and repair of site premises, production machinery and equipment in a fast‑paced heavy industrial steel environment. This multi‑skilled role requires a wide scope approach, which, amongst other areas, will evolve working on electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Working Hours – 3‑shift pattern
- Morning shifts
- Monday to Thursday – 06:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs (20 min unpaid meal break)
- Friday – 06:00 hrs to 11:40 hrs (20 min unpaid meal break)
- Afternoon shifts
- Monday to Thursday – 14:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs (20 min unpaid meal break)
- Friday – 11:40 hrs to 17:50 hrs (20 min unpaid meal break)
- Saturday or Sunday – 06:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs (20 min unpaid meal break – Saturday or Sunday agreed with team leader)
- Nights
- Monday to Thursday – 22:00 hrs to 06:00 hrs
- Friday night – NO SHIFT
What is expected of you
- Perform routine, preventative and corrective maintenance
- Diagnose, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions/failures
- Be responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic & hydraulic systems and equipment on site
- Identify opportunities for improvement of equipment reliability, efficiency, sustainability and safety
- Provide technical support to the production team
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Apprentice trained, mechanical and electrical qualifications ideally NVQ Level 3 equivalent or higher
- Previous experience in the heavy industrial engineering manufacturing environment
- Has a hands‑on approach and a commitment to safety and quality
- Comfortable working at heights (IPAF License desirable)
- Actively supports continuous improvement activities throughout the business
- Highly motivated and can work well under pressure
- Previous experience and knowledge of slitters, de‑coilers and traverse machinery
- Create planned maintenance schedules for machinery and be responsible for implementation of them
- Control, order and organise spare parts for machinery
- Will liaise and work alongside external contractors where necessary
- Has previous fabrication experience e.g. welding
