Maintenance Craftsperson (Plumbing)

An opportunity hasarisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated maintenancecraftsperson (Plumbing / plumber) to join a team of engineering techniciansresponsible for the maintenance and repair of plumbing and mechanical relatedplant and equipment at buildings maintained by Choice Facilities Services. Therole will require the post holder to undertake the role of Competent Person(CP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 00 for multipleengineer services and support Choice to meet its statutory, mandatory and bestpractice commitments to its existing partners.

As part of the role,the post holder will be required to be flexible and have a wide rangingknowledge of plumbing related systems to ensure maintenance, repair andinstallation activities can be completed in the most efficient and effectivemanner whilst providing the best possible services. As part of highly diverserole, the successful candidate will have the opportunity operate and maintainlarge scale hot and cold systems which includes all typical associated plant,equipment, fixtures and drainage.

The role will alsorequire the participation in the current CFS plumber shift pattern/system, willalso require participation within the current on-call rota and undertakeovertime when the service needs dictate for which appropriate payments will bemade.

Main duties of the job

All applicants must have a positive, friendly andco-operative manner whilst being prepared to be flexible to meet the serviceneeds of the Trust. The role will require the applicant to use their own initiative when planning and organisingengineering staffs workloads as well as supporting varied craft persons andmaintenance staff during the completion of a range of problem-solving scenariosto allow for a satisfactory outcome.

Whilst adaptingto the changing demands of the role, the post holder will be required to bemindful of key performance indicators when allocating and overseeing thecompletion of planned and reactive tasks. The ability to introduce and developnew localised systems/procedures will be key, to ensure that health and safetyand statutory and regulatory compliance is achieved and never compromised.

Successful applicants will need to have a knowledge ofbuilding related systems with a detailed knowledge of mechanical and electricalsystems typically found within an NHS Trust. Completion of a City &Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline or equivalent is essential aswell as the completion of a formally recognised, relevant and accreditedapprenticeship.

This role may require participation in an out of hours on call arrangement as per the agreed rota.

Job responsibilities

To undertake maintenance and installation work/activities appropriate to the core specialists skills across the whole range ofengineering services. Qualifications
  • Basic numeracy & literacy skills to level 1 or equivalent
  • Basic IT Skills
  • BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 in Engineering Plumbing or equivalent
  • Completion of recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Water Quality Competent Person
  • Current UK Driving License
Experience
  • Knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of plumbing system requirements and regulations typically found within large NHS Acute Trust acquired through qualifications and relevant experience
  • Experience of Natural Gas Systems
  • Experience of operating Building Management Systems (BMS)
Skills and Knowledge
  • Able to use his/her own initiative when undertaking a range of problem solving scenarios to allow for a satisfactory completion.
  • To have the ability to adapt to the changing demands of the role including the reaction to emergency situations,
  • Able to prioritising his/her own workload ensuring that high quality patient care and SLA targets are achieved.
  • Regularly provide and receive routine information and on occasion complex or sensitive information with a range Estates work colleagues, other Trust colleagues and external Trust/CFS contacts
  • Self-motivated with a desire to improve current practices
  • Able to adopt a flexible approach to working hours and on-call shift requirements
  • Knowledge of HTMs
  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems
  • Knowledge of building management system
Physical Skills
  • Is able to travel and work at all Trust sites,
  • Is able to have the ability to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day,
  • Is able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical,
  • Undertake regular moving and handling activities,
  • Requirement for highly developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye co-ordination and manipulation of fine tools
