We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Electrical Craftsperson to join our Estates Team at the Bedford Hospital. The role involves carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance across a wide range of building services and equipment. Participation in the on‑call rota and the ability to work overtime are essential requirements. Please note that, due to on‑call commitments, you must live within 30 minutes of the site.

Job responsibilities

Identify, diagnose and repair faults, and carry out general planned maintenance on electrical services, plant and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, steam‑raising plant, air‑conditioning and ventilation systems, heating systems, water and drainage systems, macerators, catering equipment, hydrotherapy pool systems and ward equipment.

Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance of a more complex nature within the building engineering services relevant to the post holder’s core electrical skill.

Complete all mandatory training as required.

Carry out installations, commissioning and testing of new work associated with the core electrical discipline, and support team members when tasks involve other trades.

Liaise with clinical staff to coordinate equipment and plant shutdowns and to arrange maintenance activities.

Qualifications
  • Relevant NVQ 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent
  • 17th or 18th Edition Requirement for Electrical Installations
Experience
  • Proven experience in a service and/or maintenance role
  • Experience of lone working
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Experience in the maintenance of healthcare building services and equipment
  • Experience of on‑call working
Knowledge
  • Good awareness of health and safety legislation and experience of working to safe systems of work
  • In‑depth working knowledge of building services engineering
  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems / BMS systems / standby generators
