Job description
Responsibilities
  1. The post-holder will meet with users of the service (e.g. patients/clients, carers, relatives and professionals) offering support to access high-quality information and support in relation to cancer. This will include the assessment of service users' information and support needs, provision of verbal and written information, supportive listening, action planning and signposting to available services and support.
  2. Provide administrative support to the Service Manager and team as needed.
  3. Working within the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Team across sites in Tameside and Glossop, the post holder will be responsible for the collation, collection and inputting of data required to monitor and quality assure the services, as well as the development of service information reports and reporting timeframes.
  4. The post holder will be required to help coordinate, mentor and train volunteers or newly recruited staff and will be expected to provide cover for the Service Manager during periods of annual leave and absence.
  5. This post requires the ability to recognise and work within the limits of own competence and responsibility, referring issues beyond these limits to the relevant team member. It also requires initiative and a measure of independent judgement while operating within procedural guidelines.
  6. Excellent communication skills and professionalism are essential.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for an extremely organised person who can use their initiative but can also work well as part of a team. The individual will need excellent communication skills to provide expert information and support to people affected by cancer. Desirable experience for this role includes knowledge of Macmillan's aims and values, providing information to the public in a community or healthcare setting, IT skills, managing information resources, and supporting and supervising volunteers. The post holder should have the ability to work flexibly, using their initiative, helping to develop and integrate the service across different care and community settings, delivering outreach sessions and support groups.
