Job summary

A leading aerospace company in Gosport seeks a skilled machinist to perform precision machining of gas turbine engine components. The ideal candidate will have completed an indentured apprenticeship and possess relevant machining experience, ideally in an aerospace context. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team are essential. Responsibilities include inspecting work, assisting in tooling designs, and maintaining safety and quality standards. Competitive compensation is offered.

Qualifications

  • Completion of indentured apprenticeship as a machinist or tool maker.
  • Good level of secondary education.
  • Relevant machining experience, preferably from an Aerospace environment.
  • Experienced in various machining techniques including milling and grinding.
  • Familiarity with metric and imperial measurement.

Job description
Key responsibilities and duties:
  • Tocarry out precision machining of gas turbine engine components to meet repair scheme specifications, quality and production schedule requirements;
  • To be able to inspect own work;
  • To manufacture/ modify fixtures and tooling for the Machine Shop and any other departments as required;
  • To assist production engineering with tool, fixture & jig designs & implement these into repair & overhaul procedures;
  • Conduct all work in accordance with company policies, health and safety procedures, quality procedures, manufactures and customer specification and industry regulations;
  • Complete all documents related to the work being performed;
  • Set-up, machine, check and carry out final inspection of work (or production tooling), in accordance with approved documentation / data;
  • Ensure machine tools, production tooling, holding devices and equipment are safe and satisfactory to use, rectifying any unsafe conditions within the jobholder’s capability;
  • Manufacture of small component details (sleeves, etc.) in accordance with detail part drawings;
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance of custom tooling & equipment throughout the plant, including design changes and review of all Tool Service Bulletins;
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on machine tools, as defined in machine preventative maintenance log books; and
  • Adherence to our Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety Management Systems (SMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and all associated Business Manuals.

  • Relevant and proven machining experience, preferably (but not essentially) from an Aerospace environment.
  • Experienced in jig‑boring, milling, turning, grinding (cylindrical preferred), and bench fitting.
  • Ability to read and use precision measuring equipment
  • Ability to read technical engineering drawings, both modern and older standards.
  • Able to read, follow and action approved machining and inspection in accordance with approved information and procedures.
  • Familiarity with metric and imperial measurement.
  • Able to select work‑holding devices, set‑up and operate machine tools competently
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
  • Proficient in the use of Navixa ERP system.

  • Responsible individual who can build upon building a relationship with customer and suppliers. Requires full co‑operation across and within other business departments
