Position Statement

Coordinates and administers nursing care for medical patients of all ages who present to the practice for care. Participates in providing informational education to patients or caregivers. Contributes to the assessment of the health status of the individuals. Maintains safe and effective nursing care rendered directly and indirectly. Works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the physician office setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receives and greets patients in a professional and friendly manner. Participates in the establishment of the immediate need and details of past medical history and prepares the patient for the exam. Responsible for checking vital signs, checks allergies and goes over the medication list with the patient. Alerts provider regarding the compliance with medications.
  • Reviews charts prior to the patient’s appointment, making sure all referrals, lab results, medication, operative reports, etc. are in the chart prior to the physician seeing the patient.
  • In accordance with directives from physicians, implements minor procedures, treatments, and screening tests.
  • Assists physicians with special tests and procedures done in the clinic. Educates the patient with regards to any questions they may have pertaining to the special test/procedure and the necessary follow up care.
  • Informs patients of lab results or new orders as directed by the physician.
  • Refill prescriptions as directed by the physician.
  • Schedules patients for referrals and sends necessary documents to the referring office.
  • Prepares instruments to return to CSPD for sterilization daily.
  • Is responsible for daily preparation and upkeep of examinations rooms including weekly inventory of supplies needed for clinics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Valid LPN or RN License, 1-2 years clinical experience in an office setting preferred.
  • Documentation in patients’ chart is done through the EMR, requires an understanding of the EMR or the ability to learn and comprehend.
  • An ability to greet and interact with the public in a tactful, compassionate manner.
  • Essential is the ability to maintain a positive attitude while integrating and closing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing as circumstances indicate or as requested by the Practice Manager. Individual must be ethical, honest, and responsible.
  • Strives to be a productive member of the department and the organization and always puts time to good use; seeks out work to be done and is always willing to help co-workers.
