Job Summary

The Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Healthcare Assistant (HCA) supports the delivery of community-based Long-Acting Reversible Contraception services for patients registered with GP practices in Barking & Dagenham. Working as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team, the post holder provides patient-focused support before, during, and after LARC procedures, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care within their scope of practice.

This includes requirements relating to clinical governance, service delivery, audit and escalation processes, incident reporting, complaints management, and organisational reporting arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patient-focused support before, during, and after LARC procedures.
  • Welcome and support patients, ensuring a calm and professional environment.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical environments and equipment, keeping stock levels appropriate.
  • Assist GPs during procedures and routine clinical tasks.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records using the EMIS Clinical system.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control standards.
  • Support referral pathways and contribute to audits and patient feedback processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Experience
  • Experience of working with the general public.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment. (Desirable)
Qualifications
  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards an equivalent level.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate. (Desirable)
Service-Specific Duties
  • Patient Reception & Support: Provide a warm and professional welcome to all patients.
  • Clinical Assistance: Support GPs during medical procedures, examinations, and routine clinical tasks.
  • Systems Management: Maintain accurate patient records and manage clinical data entry using the EMIS Clinical system.
  • Inventory & Stock Control: Monitor and manage stock levels to ensure all clinical rooms and administrative areas are fully equipped and organised.
