Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Multi-Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) to join our acute inpatient services at Rosequartz Ward, a 17-bed female treatment ward at Highgate West Mental Health Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior clinician from a psychology, nursing, social work, or occupational therapy background who holds Approved Clinician status. You will act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for detained patients under the Mental Health Act, lead the ward’s multidisciplinary team, and ensure safe, recovery-focused, patient-centred care.

The MPAC will provide Responsible Clinician (RC) functions for patients detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA) on Rosequartz Ward. They will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, ensuring delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and safe discharge planning.

  • Clinical Care & MHA Duties
    • Act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for a defined caseload of service users on Rosequartz Ward.
    • Undertake statutory duties under the MHA, including tribunal and managers’ hearings, report writing, and evidence presentation.
    • Ensure high-quality, evidence-based treatment pathways for all patients.
    • Lead on risk assessment and management, ensuring safe and proportionate care.
    • Provide oversight of physical health care in collaboration with medical colleagues.
    • Liaise closely with community teams to ensure smooth admission and discharge.
  • Leadership & Governance
    • Provide overall clinical leadership for the ward MDT.
    • Work in partnership with the ward manager to ensure governance systems are in place.
    • Participate in serious incident investigations, complaints, and quality improvement projects.
    • Contribute to strategic service development within the Hospital Division.
  • Teaching & Supervision
    • Provide clinical supervision for MDT staff.
    • Support the training and development of junior staff and trainees.
    • Contribute to MPAC training and development within the Trust.
  • Research, Audit & QI
    • Lead or contribute to audit, service evaluation, and research projects.
    • Use evidence-based practice to inform service delivery.
    • Support implementation of NICE guidance and national standards.
