Job description

Barking Havering and Redbridge University Trust (BHRUT) is seeking to appoint a full‑time Locum Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics for Lower limb – Hip and Knees.

The post holder will complement the current workforce in the Trauma and Orthopaedic team and work closely with the team to deliver high quality patient care across a broad range of services.

The role will be job‑planned to include 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), aimed at enhancing and supporting the delivery of trauma and orthopaedic services to our diverse population.

Main duties of the job
  • Managing patients in outpatient clinics, including fracture and virtual fracture clinics, and providing triage support.
  • Working in both elective and trauma theatres.
  • Providing support and teaching to junior medical staff across trust sites.
  • Contributing to service improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to a regular programme of clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement.
  • Participate in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Attend regular clinical governance meetings, service development sessions and educational forums.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential
  • Full GMC registration or posts CCT within 6 months (or equivalent qualifications such as CESR).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and decision‑making ability at consultant level.
  • General Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics surgery at consultant level or equivalent.
Desirable
  • Experience in managing emergency trauma surgical skills.
  • National or international fellowship training.
  • Commitment to and experience of teaching.
