A prominent healthcare trust in London seeks a Locum Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for a 12-month fixed term role. Locum Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

This is an exciting opportunity for a 12-month fixed term locum consultant post to join the well-established H&N team. The post is comprised of 6PAs at SGH and 4 PAs at CUH. In addition to the core activities provided by the Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon, the new appointee will be expected to have a major interest in Head and Neck Oncology & Reconstructive Surgery. The Consultant Group is committed to multidisciplinary team working for the benefit of both patients and trainees. Examples of where this has been taken forward are joint H&N Oncology clinics, joint MDTs with Consultants from out of area. These services bring together clinicians from a number of specialties including; otolaryngology, neurosurgery, clinical oncology, plastic surgery, orthodontics and restorative dentistry. The new post holder would be expected to expand multidisciplinary working in his/her area of interest.

The postholder will be expected to carry out audit and activities associated with Clinical Governance as required by the Trusts and or by the Royal College.

Main duties of the job
  • To share in the overall workload of Head and Neck Oncology Referrals in and out of region
  • Promotion of (and participation in) teaching within the department
  • Flexible cover for the clinical commitments of the department
  • To be active in research and to continue to maintain and update their professional knowledge
  • To fulfill all the general conditions applying to employees of and St George's Healthcare Trust (see below)
  • On call duties will be 1:8 frequency at St George's Hospital and attracts 1.07 PA with 5% supplement.
  • Peripheral commitments to meet service delivery

Qualifications
  • On the GMC Specialist Register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion.
  • Full Registration with the United Kingdom GMC and GDC.
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent. Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent. Fellowship or Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Experience
  • Successful completion of an SAC approved 5 year minimum training programme in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or within 3 months of completion.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of Maxillofacial Surgery including particular emphasis on benign and malignant head and neck pathology management and reconstructive surgery
Teaching
  • Commitment to organise education and training of junior doctors, therapy staff, nurses and medical students
  • Qualification in teaching or completion of a 'Teach the Trainers' course
Management
  • Evidence of previous active participation in leadership and management activities
  • Understanding of NHS policy and delivery of national performance targets (including hospital acquired infections)
  • Flexible, pragmatic and a problem solving approach.
Skills
