Job description

Applications are invited for a fixed‑term Locum Consultant in Urology based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn. The post will be a 12‑month fixed‑term appointment starting February 2026 to fill a gap while recruiting to the Substantive post. The post holder is expected to be trained in general urology and have a special interest to complement the department.

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are now working in partnership as the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group. All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and to be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as future models of care are developed.

Responsibilities
  • Share the urological workload with consultant colleagues.
  • Provide a system of mutual out‑of‑hours cover for annual, study and professional leave with the other consultants.
  • Give a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trusts.
  • Liaise with medical staff in other specialities and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities of the hospitals.
  • Take part in the Royal College of Surgeons continuing medical education programme. The employing Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.
  • Play a full part in the teaching and audit activities of the department.
  • Participate in the rolling process of clinical governance at QEH and NNUH.
  • Contribute to management of the service.
  • Comply with the outline Consultant work programme and the weekly timetable of fixed commitments.
  • Academic input is optional but there is opportunity for developing research. Active participation of teaching to undergraduate medical students from UEA and links with university are encouraged.
