About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology with a specialist interest in Oculoplastic. Join our small friendly department that has always punched above its weight in patient focused service delivery. With fresh leadership and new strategies, the department is now poised for change and expansion, ready to transform to an Eye Unit with equal emphasis on training and teaching, whilst we continue to deliver safe patient care and quality patient experience.

We are on the lookout for a dedicated and enthusiastic oculoplastic specialist with the desire to build and lead an exemplary unit that offers timely proven medical and surgical care to our cohort of patients. WWL NHS FT has recently acquired Teaching hospital status and will fully support the individual in their training and teaching aspirations. Our Trust has in the past year built a close relationship with the Edge Hill University Medical School to offer undergraduate and postgraduate placements to medical students. We welcome any requests for departmental visits and informal discussions in relation to the post.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a Consultant Ophthalmology service for day cases and out-patients, with continuing responsibility for the patients, their care and the effective functioning of the department.
  • Provide specialist lacrimal and oculoplastic expertise for the Trust to serve the local population.
  • Take part in the Consultant on call rota (1:8).
  • Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the education programme of junior medical staff, nurses and AHPs.
  • Provide supervision and training to junior hospital doctors.
  • Participate in clinical audit, evidence-based practice and clinical governance within the department.
  • Participate in regional sub-speciality audit and clinical governance to participate actively in continuing professional development (CPD).
