Job Overview

An exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant in Infection to join the Northern Care Alliance Infection Sciences team and provide additional support for Infection services at Salford Royal Hospital.

The on‑call rota is 1 in 10 covering the NCA, The Christie and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trusts. The NCA has Infection Science laboratories at Salford and Oldham providing services in medical microbiology and virology to the above locations.

Responsible, with colleagues, for providing services in clinical microbiology and infection prevention and control across the NCA, including some duties based at The Royal Oldham Hospital. The main purpose of the job is to provide a clinical infection service to Salford. The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Clinical Microbiology.

The appointee will, together with Consultant Microbiologist colleagues, primarily be responsible for the provision of comprehensive and efficient clinical and diagnostic microbiology services to the users of the Salford Royal Hospital and The Christie. An initial and then annual review of duties will take place with the Clinical Director of Infection Sciences as part of the job planning process. During the initial job planning meeting, a detailed breakdown of direct clinical care and supporting activities will be agreed. The precise arrangements will depend on the needs of the service, the interests of the individual and agreement with colleagues: flexibility is expected and there will be some duties across the Northern Care Alliance.
