Location : The Athenaeum Hotel, 3 S Lake Dr, Chautauqua, NY 14722, USA


The Athenaeum Hotel houses the Heirloom Restaurant and the Lobby Lounge. The hotel operates from late April through October for conferences and events and is fully operational during the Chautauqua Institution summer season, from late June through late August.


Compensation

Starts at $16.00 per hour and may increase to $18.00 per hour with demonstrated experience and qualifications.


Work Day


  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the hotel lobby and common areas.

  • Assist guests with their queries and direct them to the reception desk.

  • Remove trash, clean and dust furniture, fixtures, and décor in the lobby and front porch.

  • Ensure all lobby and employee restrooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and functioning properly.

  • Arrange furniture and maintain the lobby area for guest comfort.

  • Report maintenance issues, equipment damages, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately for resolution.

  • Comply with OSHA’s Blood Borne Pathogen and Hazard Communication/Safety Data Standards, including proper use of protective equipment when cleaning up blood or other potentially infectious materials or using cleaning chemicals.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with team members and management.

  • Actively participate in team meetings and training/development programs, including sharing expertise with new hires.

  • Report work‑related injuries immediately to manager/supervisor and Human Resources using the appropriate injury report, even if not seeking medical attention.


Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution offers a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees who refer a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from their first physical date of work. For seasonal positions working less than six months, the candidate must remain employed for at least 30 days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season (the last Sunday in August).


Schedule

Flexible full and part‑time schedules during the season, typically including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedules will be confirmed with management during the interview and offer process.


Living on the Grounds

No employer‑provided housing is available. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.
