Job description
Overview

Job Location: Multiple UK locations (Bristol, Portchester, Burgess Hill or Barrow-in-Furness). From 11 UK sites, our team of nearly 1,000 people delivers unique capabilities across space, air, land, sea and cyber for military, security and commercial customers across the UK and worldwide. L3Harris in Bristol is our headquarters for our Maritime UK businesses which provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 frigates. We have additional Maritime UK sites across Burgess Hill, Barrow-In-Furness and Portchester. Together, we are powering the Royal Navy\'s adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining the stack of Linux servers via OS updates, Puppet configuration, application updates and application configuration. These servers run apps including: Gitlab, RedHat Satellite, RPM build server, 2x RPM Mirror, Mirrorlist, Artifactory, Nexbox, Reviewboard, Zabbix, File share server, 4 x Gitlab Runner and a handful of test servers.
  • Building, managing, maintaining Linux laptops using Puppet to configure packages and updates remotely.
  • Managing the Puppet (Infrastructure as Code) environment.
  • Maintaining Gitlab CI scripts that run across multiple repos — automated build, test, container creation and container management.
  • Focusing on automating and improving workflows around the business & advocating for a DevOps culture throughout.
  • Writing scripts to improve build, automated test and deployment system(s).
  • Working with Kubernetes (k8s) and containers.
  • Production of required technical documentation.
  • The licensing of Gitlab and RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and external examinations such as Cyber Essentials.
  • Hosting the ITDO Jira board.
  • Providing technical support to Business Development activities including solution development, risk identification and task estimation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Linux Administration role.
  • Experience of working to software development methodologies and processes.
  • Experience in configuration control and change processing using Gitlab and Jira.
  • Development in Linux Environments.
  • Appreciation of software programming/languages – advantageous.
  • Experience with Puppet / Ansible – advantageous.
