Overview
As a Lift Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of lifts, elevators, and other vertical transportation systems. This role requires strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of lift mechanics and electronics. You will work on both routine maintenance tasks and emergency repair jobs, ensuring all equipment meets safety standards and operates efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Installation: Install new elevators and lifts in commercial, residential, or industrial buildings. This includes assembling components, wiring, and conducting initial testing.
- Maintenance & Inspections: Perform regular maintenance on lift systems to ensure safety, reliability, and functionality. This includes checking mechanical, electrical, and safety systems, and replacing worn or faulty parts.
- Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair lift and elevator systems when they malfunction. This includes diagnosing issues, replacing defective components, and conducting tests to ensure full operation after repair.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to relevant safety codes, regulations, and standards. Follow procedures to ensure the equipment is safe for use by the public.
- Customer Service: Provide high-quality customer service to clients by addressing their concerns, providing updates on work progress, and explaining any issues with lift systems.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of all maintenance work, repairs, and inspections. Document any parts replaced, the time spent on each job, and any further recommendations for the client.
- Emergency Support: Provide on-call support for urgent repairs or system failures outside regular working hours, ensuring minimal downtime.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certification in elevator systems is often preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience as a lift technician or in a similar role, with a strong background in electrical and mechanical systems.
- Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems related to lift equipment
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for customer interactions
- Certifications:
- Certification in lift maintenance (NVQ Level 3 & NVQ Level 4)
- A valid driver\'s license and reliable transportation may be required for fieldwork.
Working Conditions
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in tight spaces, and use tools for extended periods. This role may require climbing ladders or working at heights.
- Work Environment: Work is often done on-site at customer locations, including residential and commercial buildings. The job may require traveling between various sites, sometimes in emergency situations.
- Schedule: Work may involve rotating shifts, evening or weekend hours, and on-call availability for emergency repair situations.
