Job description

Job Number: HCAA02755

Agreement Type: Fixed Term/Secondment - Full Time

Salary: £63,816 - £64,938

The Role:

24 months Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunity.

Hackney is an exciting, diverse and vibrant borough, home to people from all walks of life and where 89 languages are spoken.

We have an eclectic mix of housing and one in three households now rents in the private sector. Housing across London is experiencing unprecedented pressure, with rents rocketing as demand increases. In response, Hackney’s Mayor has pledged to tackle poor housing conditions and management practices. The Council is using new powers and expanded licensing schemes to improve standards, helping to ensure that private rented properties across the borough are safe, well managed and property licensed, contributing to a fair and well-regulated borough.

We are seeking an experienced Licensing Team Manager to lead a key area of our Property Licensing Service. You will manage staff, oversee operational delivery, and ensure regulatory requirements are applied consistently across the borough. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, you will help shape service priorities, improve systems and deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service that makes a real difference to residents' lives in Hackney.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with significant experience in property licensing and team management, although candidates with equivalent professional qualifications and relevant experience will also be considered. They will have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, and excellent communication skills, enabling them to engage effectively with residents, colleagues, councillors, and external stakeholders. Experience of enforcement actions, tribunal processes, appeals, and using Metastreet software would be desirable.

Successful candidates will be joining a friendly team, committed to ensuring safe and well managed homes for people who live in Hackney.
