Job description
Overview

This is an opportunity for an ambitious professional with a professional qualification as an admitted Solicitor or Barrister, or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, or a degree-level qualification in law or related paralegal/Legal Executive qualification. The role supports the Leicestershire County Council as in-house lawyers, providing legal advice and representation on planning and highway matters. The successful applicant will work with developers and other partners to deliver a broad spectrum of planning and highway work. Responsibilities
  • Provide legal work involving planning and highways matters, including drafting and negotiation of planning (s106) agreements, highways infrastructure (s38/278) agreements, unilateral undertakings and associated agreements as necessary.
  • Provide legal advice and support related to planning and highways matters, including attendance at internal County Council and external meetings.
  • Advise and deal with highway orders and agreements, Rights of Way and Commons Registration matters.
Qualifications
  • Professional qualification to degree level in law or paralegal/Legal Executive, or working towards a paralegal/Legal Executive qualification.
  • Experience in providing legal advice on planning and highways issues. Confident in conducting complex and fast-moving negotiations on planning and highways agreements (e.g., Section 106, Section 38, Section 278).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Planning and Highways law and the development of land.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to persuade and influence outcomes and to provide timely, client-focused advice.
  • Ability to draft precise legal documents and work accurately under pressure with minimal supervision to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Team player with a personable approach; valid driving licence and access to a vehicle. Reasonable adjustments considered for disability.
