Legal Counsel for BYD UK & BYD EU (Fleet Sales and Auto Finance)

Key responsibilities
  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a variety of complex commercial contracts which may include auto finance agreements, fleet sale agreements, distributor agreements, supply contracts and after-sales service agreements, etc.
  • Provide legal advice to business managers to ensure that legal issues are identified and resolved and that legal risk is managed appropriately.
  • Handle legal disputes, including coordination of litigation/arbitration procedures and collaboration with external lawyers.
  • Support on legal compliance matters.
  • Provide clear and practical advice and assistance regarding legal matters to BYD’s management concerning our business activities.
  • Summarize potential risks of current business activities and provide training to the business team.
  • Liaise and cooperate with the legal team at headquarters.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
  • Master of Law degree. Knowledge of the laws of England and Wales is a plus.
  • 8 years of professional legal experience either as an in-house counsel of international cooperation or an international law firm. Experience in the automotive industry is a plus.
  • Experience in commercial contract matters, corporate law and legal compliance.
  • Good commercial/transactional negotiation skills, particularly in cross-cultural and multi-jurisdictional transactions.
  • Ability to develop and implement legal strategies and solutions.
  • Proven analytical skills, precise and able to multi-task effectively.
  • Proactive, diligent team player and also able to work independently.
  • Excellent command of English language – both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of Chinese is a plus.
  • Ability to support EU transaction legal issues.
  • ESG experience is a plus.
