White Swan Data is a leading data analytics company, providing innovative solutions to empower clients in the gambling industry. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team and support the business’ ongoing growth.

Reporting to our Senior Legal Counsel, this is a diverse and generalist role requiring you to advise White Swan Data and various related entities as part of the Legal team’s broader remit to oversee the owner’s interests. As Legal Counsel, you will play a crucial role in managing the wider business’ compliance with relevant laws and regulations and driving its expansion in multiple jurisdictions. Key matters on which you will be advising include commercial agreements and terms and conditions, corporate structuring strategy, corporate and individual tax efficiency, compliance and data protection initiatives, and litigation related to IP, tax and employment issues. As the Legal team’s second hire, you will be an individual who enjoys working on complex matters autonomously in collaboration with a range of stakeholders and with the necessary “can-do” attitude and urgency fit for a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial:

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of legal agreements, including software licence and service agreements.
  • Draft website and promotional terms and conditions, provide advice in relation to website content and regulatory issues.

Litigation:

  • Support any relevant stakeholders and manage external counsel in respect of any litigation, including as related to intellectual property, tax and employment matters.
  • Run individual case loads where appropriate and support the team by leading on distinct workstreams on larger matters.

Corporate Structuring and Tax:

  • Provide legal guidance on corporate strategies when launching new initiatives and manage internal restructures.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team and external counsel to optimise tax structures.

Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain compliance programs to ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
  • Conduct compliance audits and assessments.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on compliance matters.
  • Liaise with regulators and manage any regulatory risk as appropriate.

Data Protection:

  • Oversee data protection and privacy matters, including GDPR compliance.
  • Review and advise on data protection policies and procedures.
  • Handle data breach incidents and liaise with regulatory authorities when necessary.

General:

  • Lead on any miscellaneous matters that may arise such as employment contracts and employment policies and business leases and related compliance policies.
  • Conduct legal research swiftly on emerging issues and provide timely, strategic legal advice to the wider business.
  • Keep up to date with developing regulations and ensure these are communicated to the business where they influence strategy.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • A law degree (or equivalent) and Legal Practice Course (or equivalent) from renowned institutions with strong academics.
  • 4+ years of experience as a lawyer, with significant prior experience in commercial contracts, employment law and litigation. Experience in compliance, data protection and tax is desirable but not essential if there is sufficient interest in these areas.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and prioritise competing deadlines while maintaining a calm and professional attitude.
