Job Description:

About the Role:

We are seeking a committed, experienced, and motivated Supervising Senior Caseworker to join our specialist Immigration and Legal Aid team. This senior-level position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal services across our immigration practice. You will report directly to the Department Director and be responsible for managing your own complex immigration caseload while supervising, developing, and supporting a team of lawyers and caseworkers.

This role combines legal expertise, mentoring, and operational oversight. You will lead in providing Legal Aid and private immigration services while fostering a culture of learning, compliance, and compassion in line with our firm’s values.

About Us:

At BPA Immigration Lawyers, we are committed to ensuring access to justice for vulnerable individuals and families navigating the UK immigration system. As a growing firm with a strong ethical foundation, we have launched a dedicated Legal Aid department focused on delivering expert, compassionate, and high-quality advice and representation.

Joining as a Senior Caseworker with IAAS Supervisor status means more than casework — you’ll help shape the culture, standards, and direction of our Legal Aid services. You’ll provide supervision, manage legal risks, and contribute to life-changing outcomes for clients, supported by a forward-thinking, collaborative team.

Main Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Provide technical leadership and direct line management to caseworkers, trainees, and solicitors.
  • Manage a portfolio of Legal Aid and private immigration matters including:
  • Asylum, human rights, detention work; Victims of trafficking and torture; Entry clearance appeals, judicial reviews, and tribunal cases.
  • Oversee case allocation and capacity planning across the department.
  • Prepare and manage Legal Aid funding applications and related documentation.
  • Draft high-quality legal documents (witness statements, representations, bundles).
  • Attend conferences, hearings, and court as required.
  • Deliver internal training, support supervision standards, and ensure legal quality across the team.
  • Contribute to business development, networking, and firm marketing initiatives.

Key Skills Required:

  • Practicing Certificate (clean and valid) and IAAS Level 2 Senior Caseworker accreditation (required at application).
  • Proven supervisory experience and ability to manage caseworker performance and KPIs.
  • Excellent knowledge of immigration, asylum, detention, and public law work.
  • Strong working knowledge of Legal Aid funding, billing, and compliance processes.
  • Exceptional client care skills, especially with vulnerable individuals.
  • A collaborative and proactive leadership style with a commitment to training and mentoring.
  • Solid advocacy experience is advantageous.
  • Strong IT and case management system proficiency.
  • Previous advocacy experience in immigration tribunals.
  • Experience in private client immigration and/or adoption-related matters.
  • Familiarity with internal audit processes, capacity reporting, and team performance monitoring.
