Overview
Bangor University’s North Wales Medical School invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice/Clinical Pharmacy. The post contributes to the development of our MPharm degree programme, due to launch in September 2025. The appointment may be on a Teaching-focused (T&S) or Research-focused (T&R) route, and the successful candidate may be appointed as either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer depending on experience and potential.
The post is full-time and permanent, located on campus at Bangor. There is an option under our Dynamic Working framework to spend some time working remotely within the UK to support work-life balance, which will be discussed at interview. Salary: Grade 7: £38,249–£45,413 per annum; Grade 8: £46,735–£55,755 per annum; Grade 9: £57,422–£66,537 per annum. Closing date: 15 October 2025. The school expects to commence as soon as practical after appointment and interviews are held as soon as possible after the closing date.

Purpose of the Job
- To teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of projects and students.
- To develop teaching materials or methodologies (course design, assessment) and to contribute to module coordination.
- To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- To conduct research (T&R route) or academic scholarship (T&S route) at a level of national standard, with substantial evidence of quality and impact for Senior Lecturer level.
- To undertake School and College leadership roles and other duties as directed by the Head of the North Wales Medical School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching duties
- Support the development and delivery of innovative approaches to MPharm course design, learning, teaching and assessment, with a focus on sustained impact for the Senior Lecturer (T&S) route.
- Support development of student experiential placements in partnership with Health Education and Improvement Wales and regional Health Boards.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, addressing diverse student backgrounds and learning styles.
- Develop and deliver simulation activities relevant to MPharm teaching.
- Contribute to teaching across other programmes (BSc, MSc, PhD, CPD) within the College as appropriate.
- Participate in quality assurance processes and curriculum review at module and programme levels.
- For the T&S route: champion learning and teaching and student engagement; develop and utilise virtual learning environments and learning technologies.
Grade 9 Senior Lecturer teaching responsibilities: in addition to the above, lead on curriculum development and cross-disciplinary teaching collaborations (e.g., interprofessional education).
Research Duties (T&R Route)
- Disseminate and publish research results as lead author in high-quality peer-reviewed outlets; develop and manage research projects with an emphasis on national excellence.
- Evidence of attracting external research funding as appropriate to the field.
- Senior Lecturer (T&R) responsibilities include leading initiatives to develop the School’s Pharmacy research culture and activities.
Administrative and Wider Contribution
- Significant contribution to School/College management, governance, and policy formation; support for student recruitment and retention.
- Contribute to the University’s mission, equality and diversity initiatives, Welsh language policy, and external profile through marketing and collaboration with other HEIs.
- Mentor less experienced staff and undertake other duties as directed by the Head of Pharmacy and Head of the North Wales Medical School.
Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
- GPhC-registered pharmacist with expertise in clinical, social, or other relevant pharmacy practice specialism.
- Postgraduate degree (or near completion) in a relevant subject.
- For appointment at Grade 8 or 9: minimum of 3 years’ substantial teaching experience (or equivalent HEA recognition) or Fellow status as required for the route.
Desirable:
- Member or Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society; PhD or equivalent; Independent Prescribing qualification.
Experience/Knowledge
- Essential: experience in UK pharmacy practice or extensive academic experience in pharmacy; for T&S: demonstrated teaching capability.
- For T&R: evidence of research outputs (publications, conference work) and ability to develop and manage research projects and attract funding.
- For Grade 8/9: experience of module development, supervising projects, and teaching at HE level with evidence of teaching excellence.
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication; IT and VLE proficiency; ability to work in a team and independently; ability to prioritise and meet deadlines; awareness of bilingual health-care contexts in North Wales.
- Desirable: ability to communicate in Welsh; opportunities to learn Welsh if not already proficient.
