Overview

The Department of History at King’s College London seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Modern Irish/British History for a 16-month temporary appointment, starting 1 January 2026. The post arises as a consequence of Dr Conor Morrissey taking a career break. The successful candidate will undertake research in Irish and/or British history and teach modules including “The Irish Revolution, 1912–1923” and “The Northern Ireland Troubles”, as well as a thematic special subject such as “War” or “Nations”. They will contribute to core undergraduate and postgraduate modules and to department administration.

About you

To be successful, candidates should have:

  • PhD qualified in relevant subject area
  • Excellent research expertise and record in modern Irish and/or modern British history, relative to career stage
  • Ability to teach, convene and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in modern Irish as well as modern British history
  • Teaching experience relevant to the role
  • Ability to engage students, support their learning and wellbeing through their degree
  • Experience of effective and diligent academic administration and academic and/or external networking
  • Evidence of a collaborative ethos, capacity for team-working and enthusiasm for engaging with other colleagues
  • Experience of teaching and supporting students at postgraduate level
