A leading academic institution in the UK seeks a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics to commence in September 2026. The successful candidate will engage in high-quality research, mentor MSc and PhD students, and contribute to collaborative research projects. Candidates with a strong research background and teaching experience are encouraged to apply. The role offers a competitive salary, relocation assistance, flexible working options, and supportive benefits, fostering an inclusive environment for all applicants.
With over 40 members from more than 15 countries, the Economics group at the University of Surrey enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching in Economics. The group has recently invested heavily to recruit staff whose innovative work is having a large impact on international research agendas, as evidenced by ranking 10th for Economics in REF2021. To support our growth strategy, we would like to make an appointment at the Lecturer (Assistant Professor) level, to start in September 2026.
As a new academic staff member, you will fully immerse yourself in the intellectual life of our research group. You will be supported to extend your high‑quality research agenda and build research networks, both within economics and beyond it. You will be encouraged to participate in externally funded collaborative research projects. Through your teaching you will play a key role in the leadership, engagement, and satisfaction of our student population at all levels, including mentoring and supporting outstanding MSc and PhD students.
To apply please submit a cover letter, indicating how your profile would enhance the School’s research and teaching environments, reference letters, and a copy of your CV, via our website. Informal enquiries should first be directed to Prof. Joao Santos Silva (jmcss@surrey.ac.uk), Prof. Ricardo Nunes (ricardo.nunes@surrey.ac.uk), or Dr. Kamila Nowakowicz (k.nowakowicz@surrey.ac.uk) by email, with “Surrey appointments 2026” in the subject line.
At Surrey, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all, in pursuit of Surrey’s vision to be a leading global University. We create a truly inclusive culture, value diversity, and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from under‑represented groups, such as women, people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities. Appointments will always be made on merit.
Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis and we reserve the right to close this role once a suitable candidate has been identified.
