Lecturer - English (Qualified)

Role: Lecturer – English (Qualified)

Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: £33,048 to £38,169 per annum, based on experience and qualifications, plus up to a £3,000 market supplement for suitable candidates; 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays; Teacher's pension; Retail and Leisure discounts; professional and personal development opportunities; access to college courses.

Hours / Weeks: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time.

This is a UK‑based contract. You must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available.

About the role

We are seeking an English Lecturer to join the English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver High-Quality English Teaching – plan and deliver engaging lessons across multiple levels, ensuring individual learner needs are met.
  • Assess & Monitor Progress – prepare schemes of work, assess to awarding body standards, track student progress, and provide timely interventions.
  • Enhance Student Experience – support tutorials, promote vocational opportunities, and maintain inclusive, safe learning environments.
  • Contribute to Curriculum & Quality – develop innovative resources, participate in course reviews, marketing activities, and ensure compliance with quality processes.
  • Uphold Professional Standards – maintain safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety compliance while engaging in continuous professional development.
About you
  • Essential Qualifications – degree or Level 5 qualification in English, Certificate in Education/PGCE (or equivalent), and GCSE Maths & English (A‑C).
  • Teaching Expertise – recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English Language (Pearson specification), strong classroom management, and ability to deliver high‑quality learning experiences.
  • Knowledge & Professional Skills – up‑to‑date subject knowledge, confident use of Microsoft Office, ability to complete administrative tasks accurately, and meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal & Team Skills – strong communication, organisational and influencing skills, ability to build positive relationships and contribute effectively to team objectives.
  • Values & Flexibility – commitment to safeguarding, EDI, College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty), willingness to travel across sites, and maintain CPD.
