Overview

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of care leavers aged 16-25? Do you have the skills to help guide care leavers as they transition to independence? We are recruiting for a Leaving Care Advisor on behalf of our public sector client based in Romford, East London/Essex.

Position: Leaving Care Advisor

Contract Type: Temporary (3 months with potential for extension)

Hourly Rate: £23.27 per hour PAYE or £31.05 per hour Umbrella

Location: Havering Town Hall, Romford (Hybrid Working Available)

Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support and advice to care leavers aged 16-25 preparing to leave care.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with care leavers, encouraging their participation in decision-making processes.
  • Advocate and explain complex information in an accessible manner.
  • Assess individual needs, identify risks, and set realistic goals to guide towards positive outcomes.
  • Manage a caseload ensuring comprehensive assessments are completed within required timescales.
  • Offer advice on financial entitlements and ensure care leavers receive the support available to them.
  • Coordinate services and liaise with partner agencies, including housing, health, and education.
  • Support young people in accessing training, education, and employment opportunities.
What We're Looking For
  • A relevant practice qualification in childcare, education, health or social care, e.g. NVQ 3 or equivalent / higher, or additional qualifications/training in specialist areas including child protection
  • Strong active listening and clear communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain professional relationships.
  • Understanding of trauma and its impact on young people, with a compassionate approach to support.
  • Experience in assessing needs and managing risks in complex situations.
  • A proactive attitude towards helping care leavers achieve their goals.
