Learning Support Assistant – Portsmouth

Academics is recruiting Learning Support and Teaching Assistants with good behavioural management skills in Portsmouth to fulfil daily supply, short‑term and long‑term full‑time contracts.

Overview

The role involves enabling young people to develop and make progress by providing physical, emotional and nurturing support during their school day as well as supporting the teacher in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide physical, emotional and nurturing support to students throughout the school day.
  • Assist in maintaining a stable, happy and caring classroom environment, prioritising health, safety, care and welfare of young people.
  • Support the classroom and students as a whole; aid the teacher when necessary.
  • Work on a 1 : 1 basis with children that are lower‑level learners or children that have challenging behaviours, where required.
  • Maintain strong communication skills and build relationships with students and staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Good communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised.
  • Patience and commitment to helping others.
  • Experience working with children (e.g., Teaching Assistant, care setting, other roles) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Availability Monday‑Friday 8:30‑15:30; full‑time preferred for consistency.
  • Child Workforce‑related DBS registered to the DBS Update Service or willingness to submit one.
