An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and compassionate veterinary professional to take on the role of Lead Veterinary Surgeon at a state-of-the-art 24/7 Hospital in Cheshire.

This position is ideal for a vet who is as passionate about supporting people as they are about caring for pets. The Lead Veterinary Surgeon will inspire and guide a talented team of clinicians, ensuring exceptional standards of care are consistently achieved through effective mentoring, coaching, and leadership.

Working in close partnership with the Practice Manager and Lead Nurse, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the hospital’s day-to-day operations—driving clinical excellence, nurturing a positive workplace culture, and contributing to strategic decision-making. About the Organisation

This veterinary hospital is operated by a Community Interest Company (CIC)—a non-profit organisation with a mission to make high-quality veterinary care accessible to all. By reinvesting profits into the team and patient care, the organisation ensures that every decision prioritises wellbeing over profit.

With free consultations and transparent pricing, the hospital removes barriers to treatment, enabling pets to receive the care they deserve.

Facilities include advanced diagnostic equipment such as digital X-rays, ultrasound, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory for rapid test results. The hospital also partners with leading reference laboratories for complex cases to deliver the highest standard of veterinary medicine.

Beyond general practice, the hospital offers orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, CT scanning, inpatient and critical care services, and more—providing a diverse and stimulating caseload for its clinicians.

About the Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Clinical Excellence: A strong and confident clinical skillset with enthusiasm for mentoring and developing others
  • Exceptional Communication: The ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues alike
  • Leadership Experience: Previous involvement in performance management and one-to-one meetings
  • Strategic Awareness: An interest in evaluating practice KPIs and financial performance (P&L experience advantageous but not essential)
  • VetGDP Accreditation: Either already qualified or motivated to obtain the VetGDP qualification
  • Inspirational Leadership: Confidence in leading staff meetings and driving clinical governance initiatives
Rota
  • 40 hours per week across 4 days

A Role with Real Impact

This is more than a leadership role—it’s a chance to make a genuine difference in both the veterinary community and the lives of pet owners. The Lead Veterinary Surgeon will enjoy a varied and rewarding caseload, lead a passionate team, and contribute to making veterinary treatment more affordable and accessible to all.
