Job summary

A leading engineering company in the UK is seeking a Test Engineer to lead the operation of a test rig for a novel pulsed power device. You will design and install upgrades, conduct experiments to resolve design issues, and help build future testing rigs. Ideal candidates will have a background in engineering or physics, experience in mechanical and electrical systems, and proficiency in CAD and programming (Python). This role offers significant autonomy and opportunities to tackle complex engineering problems.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in industry.
  • Ability to contribute across mechanical and electrical domains.
  • Experience with pulsed power, high voltages, and hydrogen is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation of a test rig for the client's pulsed power device.
  • Design and install upgrades to the rig and the test article.
  • Design and execute experiments to resolve product design issues.
  • Contribute to advanced rig design and commissioning.

Job description
Test Engineer

Location: Exact location TBC, Didcot parkway area

Salary: Depending on experience (negotiable)

Role Description

You will lead the operation of a test rig for our client novel pulsed power device, and support with designing and installing upgrades to both the rig and the test article.

Additionally, you will :
  • Be responsible for design, build, and execution of other experiments to answer specific unresolved questions with the product’s design or operation,
  • Contribute to the design, build, commissioning, and operation of future, more advanced, rigs that move the concept closer to the production design.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced startup, where you will tackle a very wide range of highly coupled Multiphysics problems with a significant degree of autonomy.

Skills / Qualifications / Experience
  • An engineering or physics background, with a relevant degree, or equivalent, plus 5 years of experience in industry.
  • A generalist skillset, ideally able to contribute to some degree across mechanical, electrical
  • Extensive experience of hands‑on building and testing of complex mechanical / electrical systems
  • Ability and mindset to iterate quickly in a fast‑paced environment, with excellent problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient with CAD for the design of test rig components, ideally SolidWorks
  • Proficient in programming, ideally in Python, but other languages would be beneficial
  • Experience with any of the following would be highly beneficial
  • Pulsed power
  • High voltages
  • Hydrogen
  • Excellent communication skills, able to discuss ideas and test results with a multidisciplinary team
