Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with drive and enthusiasm to join our Surgical Pharmacy team as the Lead Specialist Pharmacist for Hepato‑Biliary – Pancreatic (HPB) and Upper GI Surgery. The post holder will work closely with the Principal Pharmacist for Surgery and be embedded in the multidisciplinary team while providing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services and leading service development.

We are looking for an experienced pharmacist with extensive clinical pharmacy knowledge and excellent communication skills. The role will require the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, drive change in practice, and have a keen interest in actively participating in the training and development of others.

The department supports further education, including leadership and prescribing qualifications if not already held, and encourages continuous professional development. Successful applicants will be required to participate in late‑night, weekend and public holiday work.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, provide and develop the clinical pharmacy service for HPB/Upper GI surgical patients within the surgical division, ensuring safe, cost‑effective and patient‑focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Provide a framework for the safe, effective and economic use of medicine resources within the specialist clinical area, utilising sound medicines management and clinical governance principles.
  • Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for the Surgical Division when required.
  • Integrate into the HPB/Upper GI Surgical MDT team, attending and contributing to ward rounds.
  • Supervise and train pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals working within the specialty during rotations.
