Job description
Overview

This role is to lead the Ultrasound service at PAHT from an operational and clinical aspect. The postholder will be an expert clinical practitioner, managing a complex case load. They will have a role in governance, leadership, quality assurance, teaching and supervision in addition to their cross-divisional clinical case load. The post holder will be dynamic, innovative, forward thinking, and will contribute to service development and the trust-wide improvement plans. The post holder will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team including Advanced Practitioners, Senior Sonographers, Sonographers and Radiology Assistants working in the ultrasound department. The post holder will work closely with all internal and external stakeholders to deliver a high-quality ultrasound service within a safe environment for staff and patients.

  • Performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations to agreed protocols and standards.
  • Providing written reports after synthesising history and scan findings to make a diagnosis.
  • Teaching Junior Doctors who have an interest in ultrasound.
  • Acting as an expert resource for sonographers and other staff within the ultrasound department.
  • Being responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating training across our department. This will include scoping existing knowledge and skills of the workforce.
  • Providing professional leadership to the ultrasound staff, setting the standard for clinical delivery and promoting inclusive, compassionate behaviours across our teams.
  • Participating in the clinical workload in both Obstetric and General ultrasound
  • Support student sonographers and radiographers throughout their training and liaise with training establishments to ensure students receive the best educational experience
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the Sonography budget and department

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.
