Job Description

As a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of rotating machines and power generation systems for the marine sector. You will also provide product support from initial inquiry to project closure. Reporting directly to the Systems Engineering Manager, you will perform both hands-on and office-based activities ensuring the timely delivery of solutions that are safe and cost-effective.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Designing rotating machine systems of the highest quality, from the receipt of an order to handover to the customer, while complying with business procedures, standards, and regulations with a high focus on safety throughout.
  • Integration of large electro-mechanical systems to meet environmental and transversal requirements.
  • Planning and executing relevant engineering activities to ensure projects attain on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets, including testing and documentation.
  • Taking part in phase reviews, design reviews, ILS reviews, FMEA, and determining their attendees, objectives and next steps as well as acting as the review chairperson.
  • Liaison with suppliers to produce quotations and support their site activities.
  • Ensuring issued documents have been reviewed and are of the required quality, with adherence to specifications and standards.
Qualifications
  • A relevant degree in Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proven track record of designing mechanical systems in a professional engineering environment.
  • Ability to perform basic structural design and calculations, structural design specifications and mechanical Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • A solid understanding of rotor dynamics, such as: torsional and lateral vibration, shaft lines, bearings, mechanical coupling, shock absorption.
  • Excellent knowledge of thermal and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience in testing, verifying and validation of rotating equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to collaborate and work as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Some experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO or similar.
  • A basic understanding of electrical and power generation principles.
  • Sole British citizenship with a valid British Passport ("UK Eyes only").
  • Possession of or being capable of obtaining SC level security clearance.
