A leading engineering company in Cramlington is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive projects across the energy sector. You will lead mechanical design from concept to completion, providing technical leadership and client support. The ideal candidate has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and significant experience in the onshore energy sector. Lead Mechanical Engineer - Energy Sector, Cramlington | Full-time | Permanent.

Join a market-leading engineering team driving projects across petrochemical, waste-to-energy, and renewables. We are recruiting a Lead Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of design and delivery, working on high-impact energy infrastructure from concept to completion. You will be the go-to expert for mechanical design, providing technical leadership, client support, and direction to multi-discipline engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design across concept, basic, and detailed engineering phases.
  • Review and approve specs, data sheets, vendor drawings, and technical deliverables.
  • Provide client-facing consultancy on equipment selection and design.
  • Ensure QA and compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.
  • Support internal teams and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within scope.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvement, innovation, and cost optimisation.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in the onshore energy sector, ideally across petrochemical, waste-to-energy (WtE), or renewables.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and mechanical analysis techniques.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working Hours

40 hours per week, 8:30-17:00 Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:30 - 13:30, early finish on Fridays. Five days in the office with a flexible working policy.
