Lead Environmental Consultant – Competitive Salary – Knutsford, Cheshire

Overview

Stopford have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Environmental Consultant, with responsibility for managing its environmental consultancy services across industries transitioning to net‑zero, including renewable energy generation, power to liquid processes and the nascent hydrogen sector. The role reports to the Consultancy Group Director and offers an excellent opportunity to apply and further develop your skills across the low‑carbon economy, shaping and promoting Stopford's environmental activities across its client base and internal technology.

Responsibilities
  • Provide regulatory advice – support clients to understand legislative and regulatory requirements and assist in implementing them, such as IED (Industrial Emissions Directive) and BAT (Best Available Techniques).
  • Advise on permitting requirements – lead or support application processes, providing assessments such as SWIP (Small Waste Incineration Plant) and MCP (Medium Combustion Plant).
  • Scope, prepare and submit environmental assessments for planning applications, permit applications or other regulatory requirements (air quality, containment review, flood risk), often managing specialist sub‑contractors.
  • Act as technical advisor on all environmental matters.
  • Liaise directly with clients as requested and maintain client confidence.
  • Ensure key performance indicators are in place, managed and reported on.
  • Line‑manage staff, ensuring contribution to Stopford’s ambition while adhering to company values.
Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
