Job summary

A local government council in the United Kingdom is seeking a proactive and highly skilled electrical engineer to provide technical leadership and assurance across its housing property portfolio. The role involves managing contractors effectively to ensure compliance and safety during increased demand. Responsibilities include leading electrical inspections, reviewing designs, and identifying risks. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, knowledge of relevant standards, and experience in a public sector environment.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7671, Electricity at Work Regulations, HTMs, and relevant British Standards.
  • Experience in local authority, public sector, or complex multi-asset estate.

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert technical advice and sign-off.
  • Leading statutory electrical inspections, testing regimes, and remedial works programmes.
  • Reviewing and approving electrical designs, specifications, reports, and contractor proposals.
  • Overseeing and challenging M&E contractors for compliance and value for money.
  • Supporting capital projects, refurbishments, and planned works from an electrical perspective.
  • Identifying and managing electrical risks with clear technical reporting.
