This role offers the opportunity to lead the development of a globally-used WordPress security plugin, protecting over a million websites worldwide. You will oversee the plugin’s technical roadmap, guide a small, distributed team of developers, and ensure high-quality, secure code standards. The position combines hands‑on development in PHP and JavaScript with strategic leadership, including task delegation, code review, and collaboration with QA and product management teams. This is a fully remote role with flexible hours, requiring partial overlap with UK working hours. Ideal candidates are passionate about WordPress development, website security, and mentoring others, with the chance to shape a product that impacts millions of users globally.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and manage the development team, assigning tasks, reviewing work, and ensuring timely delivery of features.
  • Develop and maintain secure, efficient, and high-quality code for WordPress plugins using PHP, JavaScript, and relevant libraries.
  • Establish and enforce technical standards and best practices across the codebase.
  • Identify priorities, resolve blockers, and act as the key technical point of contact for the plugin.
  • Collaborate with QA and Product Management teams to align development work with business objectives.
  • Guide the strategic direction of plugin development, leveraging expertise in security and WordPress.
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in PHP development, particularly within WordPress plugin development.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and related libraries for WordPress.
  • Deep understanding of website security, including firewalls and related technologies.
  • Experience managing and mentoring other developers.
  • Knowledge of GitHub, GitLab, or Git is desirable but not required.
