Job description
Job Overview

My clients are searching for an experienced small‑animal vet, ideally with at least five years in practice, who is ready for a role that combines clinical freedom, high standards, genuine teamwork and the chance to grow. Whether you already hold a certificate or are working toward one, they are happy to recognise and reward that level of commitment. Salaries typically fall between £55,000 and £65,000 depending on experience, with additional earning potential for certificate holders, AVPs and through an established bonus scheme.

The practice sits in Milton Keynes, close to fast rail links and within easy reach of Luton Airport. But what truly sets them apart is their ethos. They care deeply about patients, colleagues and the quality of the work. They are practical, supportive and collaborative—no egos, no hierarchy, just a team that enjoys working together and takes pride in continual improvement.

This is an especially exciting moment to join them, as they began an expansion in July 2025, is transforming the way they work. The project includes a state‑of‑the‑art dental suite, advanced imaging room and CT suite, alongside larger wards for cats and dogs, an expanded office and a colleague area designed to be genuinely enjoyable to use. The GE Revolution ACT 32‑slice CT scanner is due to go live later this year, and once the build is complete, they’ll operate with seven consult rooms and three theatres. These changes aren’t about growth for growth’s sake, but about matching clinical ambition and enhancing the quality of care.

The practice is led by an experienced vet and RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, alongside Practice Manager. Together with a team of 10 vets, 8 RVNs, 3 SVNs and 4 VCAs, supported by dedicated client care and administrative colleagues, you’ll join a group with a strong professional identity and a friendly, down‑to‑earth attitude.

The facilities reflect the commitment to doing things properly. Orthopaedic work includes TPLO, ESF, locking systems and a Hall drill, and they are well equipped for monitoring and anaesthesia with multiparameters, portable capnography, syringe drivers and a generous supply of infusion pumps. Imaging and endoscopy include Doppler ultrasound, flexible scopes, Karl Storz capture and rhinoscopy, laparoscopy and arthroscopy equipment. They also use dental X‑ray, K‑Laser, nerve stimulation, EPOC blood gases and HT Vista technology for non‑invasive skin mass assessment. By late 2025, the dedicated CT suite and new clinical spaces will further elevate what they can offer. They’re also home to in‑house physiotherapy and hydrotherapy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage your own caseload with confidence, pursue cases aligned with your clinical strengths and collaborate with colleagues across surgery, imaging, medicine and ECC.
  • Deepen your special interests, work towards a certificate, contribute to audits and meetings, and take on informal mentoring if that’s something you enjoy.
  • Work towards or hold a certificate in a discipline such as surgery, imaging, medicine, ECC or dentistry.
  • Live a four‑day work week with a consistent day off; weekends are worked on a one‑in‑four basis.
  • There are no night duties or on‑call responsibilities; in‑patients and OOH care are managed by Vets Now.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Over five years’ experience in small animal practice.
  • Comfortable with routine soft‑tissue surgery and imaging.
  • Confident in managing or triaging more complex cases.
  • A growth mindset: enjoys contributing, learning, sharing knowledge and helping raise standards across the team.
  • Working towards or already holding a certificate in a relevant discipline.
Benefits & Remuneration
  • Competitive salary reflective of experience and qualifications, quarterly bonuses.
  • Ample CPD including £2,500 and five days of study leave.
  • Full support for certificates; professional memberships paid.
  • Maternity pay is enhanced; discount schemes, lifestyle perks, a company pension and additional leave (bank holidays and your birthday off).
