About the role: We are looking for a proactive Laboratory & Facilities Technician to join our team in North West Leicestershire. Laboratory Technicians at Sygnature Discovery play a pivotal role in supporting our scientists, ensuring they have the resources they need to carry out scientific research within our well-equipped and cutting-edge laboratories. Whilst this role does not offer a route into a scientific position, it is a fantastic opportunity for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Laboratory Technician team.

Role Responsibilities
  • Inventory and Stock Management – maintain chemical and consumable inventories and carry out stock checks.
  • Deliveries and Shipments – receive, check, and distribute deliveries, prepare and arrange shipments of samples / compounds.
  • Equipment and Facilities Maintenance – maintenance, cleaning, and occasional repair of lab equipment (fridges and freezers, respiratory protective equipment, etc.).
  • Health and Safety and Compliance – promote and implement safe working practices, waste management, and ensure compliance with safety systems (fire, smoke, gas, electrical, etc.).
  • Systems and Records – use relevant systems (e.g. Spiceworks, Sortly, Cheminventory, Amici) to track tasks, keep maintenance scheduled updated, and contribute to SOPs.
  • Equipment decontamination e.g. incubators and centrifuges.
  • Ensure safe working practices and compliance with safety and other regulations including fire, smoke, gas, electrical and other safety systems.
  • Issue and manage PTW (Permits To Work), ATW (Approval To Work), POWRA (Point Of Work Risk Assessment), and evaluation of contractors’ RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statement).
Skills & Qualifications

Essentials:

  • A strong commitment to health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • An organised approach to record-keeping and compliance, keeping logs, schedules, and SOPs up to date.
  • Able to work to deadlines in a safe and efficient manner – prioritising tasks as necessary.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • A good working knowledge of mathematics and IT – confident in the use of a variety of IT system, including Outlook, Word, Excel and ideally some experience of using purchasing systems.

Desirables:

  • Experience in a facilities environment.
  • Experience using inventory or task management systems (e.g. Spiceworks, Sortly, Cheminventory, Amici, or similar).
  • A good understanding of lab stock management.
  • Familiarity with waste management processes in a lab environment.
