A leading construction company in England is looking for a Junior / Assistant Estimator to produce competitive tenders. You'll work closely with a Senior Estimator and use your construction knowledge to ensure accurate costings and high-quality proposals across various sectors. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, relevant education, and some experience in delivering tenders.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills with confidence to liaise with teams.
  • Collaborative approach and genuine team-player attitude.
  • Some experience in delivering tenders for principal or sub-contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare cost estimates and carry out take-offs.

Job description

On behalf of a highly successful main contractor, we are keen to speak with Junior / Assistant Estimator candidates. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to progress their career and gain exposure to a diverse range of construction projects valued up to £10M.

The Role

The primary purpose of this role is to produce competitive and innovative tenders—ensuring accurate costings and proposing the right solutions to the highest quality standards. Working closely with a Senior Estimator, you'll use your construction knowledge to consider alternative solutions and value engineering, delivering robust tenders across multiple sectors including education, commercial, automotive, and pharmaceutical.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately interpret drawings and technical specifications
  • Carry out take-offs and prepare cost estimates
  • Analyse sub-contractor tenders across multiple trades
  • Attend tender adjudication meetings
  • Support the development of strong Client and Consultant relationships
  • Provide accurate handover of costs and supporting documentation to the Project QS at project award
Skills & Experience
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with both internal and external teams
  • A collaborative approach with a genuine team-player attitude
  • Some experience of delivering a variety of tenders (for a principal or sub-contractor)
  • Understanding of a range of construction methods
  • Ability to present plans clearly and accurately
  • IT literacy in Excel. Training can be provided for specialist (Bluebeam) estimating software.
Qualifications
  • Minimum GCSE Maths and English Grade 5-9 (or equivalent)
  • HNC in Building Studies or 2+ years relevant Estimating or Quantity Surveying experience
