Investigator

Location: Northampton Road, Newton Heath, Manchester, M40 5BP

Contract: 3 month fixed term contract with possible extension

Pay Rate: £20.86 PAYE per hour / £27.18 LTD per hour

Start Date: ASAP (subject to police vetting)

About the Role

We are seeking a committed and experienced former Detective to join Counter Terrorism Policing North West as an Investigator on a temporary basis. This role will support priority national security investigations and undertake intelligence-driven enquiries linked to terrorism and extremism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct proactive and reactive counter terrorism investigations under the direction of an SIO or CTPNW command.
  • Attend scenes of crime, complete fast-track actions, and preserve evidence.
  • Interview witnesses and suspects and take formal statements.
  • Gather, assess and record intelligence in line with MOPI and the 5x5x5 process.
  • Search premises and review digital/IT data, including use of HOLMES 2 and other databases.
  • Prepare complex prosecution files and support major incident room functions (disclosure, exhibits, outside enquiry).
  • Work closely with partners including the Security Service, UKIS and regional forces.
  • Ensure full compliance with CPIA, RIPA, DPA, HRA and national investigative standards.
Essential skills and experience
  • Former Detective or equivalent investigative background.
  • Proven experience conducting complex criminal investigations.
  • Strong report-writing and evidence-preparation skills.
  • Knowledge of PACE, investigative processes, and forensic handling.
  • Ability to analyse information, manage sensitive intelligence and work under pressure.
  • Confident in using a range of IT systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
