A respected charity in England is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to lead the finance function during a pivotal period. Robertson Bell are delighted to be supporting a respected charity in the North of England with the appointment of an Interim Financial Controller. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the finance function during a pivotal period, providing leadership and driving improvements that will have an immediate and lasting impact.

Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will play a hands-on role in ensuring the charity’s finances are robust, transparent, and positioned to support its vital work.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and support a small, dedicated finance team.
  • Strengthen financial systems and processes, with a particular focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, including management accounts and statutory accounts.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted business partner.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Significant experience operating at Financial Controller or equivalent level, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, potentially with an audit or practice background.
  • Excellent systems knowledge, with a proven ability to introduce improvements that add real value.
  • The ability to operate at pace and make a visible impact in a pressurised environment.
  • A values-led, empathetic approach with alignment to the organisation’s ethos.

This is an urgent requirement and the charity can offer flexibility with a 3–5 day per week commitment, alongside a highly competitive day rate. The assignment is initially 3–6 months, with the possibility of extension.
