Job description

Robertson Bell are pleased to be working with a London-based university as they recruit an Interim Financial Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant to provide vital support during a period of change, ensuring robust financial controls and reliable reporting.

The role:
Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, you will take ownership of a defined set of balance sheet and payroll control accounts, ensuring reconciliations are delivered accurately and on time. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data, while supporting improvements to month end processes and timelines.

Key duties will include:

  • Preparing and reconciling balance sheet and control accounts, with a focus on payroll.
  • Maintaining data integrity within the finance system and resolving queries.
  • Supporting the month end closure process and helping to embed stricter reporting timelines.
  • Assisting with audit requirements if needed.
  • Providing technical accounting input and keeping up to date with accounting standards.

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess strong reconciliation skills and solid balance sheet knowledge.
  • Bring proven technical accounting expertise.
  • Be part-qualified (minimum halfway through) or fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Ideally have prior experience within higher education or the wider not-for-profit sector.
  • Be honest, reliable and able to act as a steady pair of hands during a period of transition.
